Apep is a draconic diety of evil, fire, and serpents and is the living embodiment of evil in the Pharaonic myth, appropriately the enemy of the gods (occasionally allying with Set). His worshippers claim he has no creed but destruction and evil.[1] Without his imprisonment and constant monitoring by their worshippers, the deities fear all of existence would end by Apep's hands.[2]
Appearance[]
Apep appears as a large molten snake that is 100 feet (30 meters) long.[1] He is attended by 5-50 flaming snakes.[3]
Location[]
Apep's home plane is the Twelve Hours of Night, which is the third outer plane in the Pharaonic cosmology where Apep would refuse to let Ra's solar barge from passing through its cycle across the planes.[1] Apep would eventually be imprisoned to the Wells of Darkness by the Pharaonic Pantheon, a layer in the Abyss that holds the most dangerous creatures in the multiverse as prisoners. The draconic deity resides in a pool that is guarded by a gargantuan blackstone gigant that has the form of a six-armed pharaoh while worshippers of the Pharaonic pantheon keep the serpent at bay with magical rituals and spells from the tome Book of Overwhelming Apep.[2]
Clergy & Temples[]
Human worshippers of Apep do not show even the slightest of devotion to Apep in their ordinary life, for they would be smitten immediately. Because of this, they bear no holy symbol or any modification of their appearance or persona. Human worshippers meet with others of their kind in secret.[1]
On the contrary, evil creatures that worship Apep and are outside of the other deities' sphere of influence will frequently show off their devotion to their god. They will construct large temples in the desert or in mountainous regions that are hidden from human eyes, with these temples often including a high amount of snake or snake-like motifs.[1]
Relations[]
Apep is reviled by most, with the rest of the Pharaonic gods claiming he has no worshippers, although this is said to be far from the truth.[1]
Powers and Abilities[]
Alongside having the abilities of a demigod, Apep has an extremely poisonous bite and has a breath weapon akin to a Red Dragon but enhanced. Apep is immune to fire, and has scales that are impervious to nonmagical weapons, although he is vulnerable to cold damage.[1][3]
Apep is a 16th level spellcaster. His spells consist of controlling animals (which can only be snakes and other reptiles), manipulating fire, and utilizing unholy magic, as well as necromancy, poison manipulation, establishing resistance to fire and ice damage, dispelling good magic, shapeshifting, and applying magic to his fangs.[1]
