"Known as the "Thunder Wyvern," Astalos can charge itself with electricity from the furious movements of its wings, tail and crest. In its charged state, the membrane in its wings take on a beautiful glow that only barely offsets the terrible nature of this monster."
―Hunter's Notes

Astalos is a powerful wyvern appearing in Monster Hunter Generations.

Appearance[]

Astalos of a typical bipedal wyvern body. It's scales and armor are dark green and very spiny, with large claw-like spines on the front of it's wings. It's wing membranes resemble an insect's. It's tail ends in large bladed pincers. It's horn is of a unique shape, and can unfold vertically.

Ecology[]

Astalos are uncommon, but incredibly dangerous and disruptive when they do appear. They prefer temperate areas.

Astalos are top predators, though they typically feed on the giant wasps known as Bnahabra and Vespoid, stunning them with electricity. They often compete with a number of other powerful predators, though they usually hold their own, and hold an advantage over many wyverns, as electricity is a common weakness among them, while Astalos rarely encounters a powerful creature holding it's elemental weakness.

Abilities[]

Astalos are powerful and agile fighters on the ground and in the air. They can no problems with smashing opponents with their claws or slicing them with it's tail. They can also make abrupt bursts of speed across the ground.

FourthGen-Astalos Render 001

A fully supercharged Astalos. Note the bright green areas.

Astalos produces a green electricity that they can channel to various body parts. The wing claws simply shock foes they contact. The tail can paralyze enemies and generate a grounded beam or aoe burst. The beast can fire a forceful lightning ball from it's mouth or slower projectiles that produce zig-zagging pillars of lightning. The horn can actually produce a "blade" of lightning that it slashes or impales foes with.

Once they use an electric attack, Astalos can begin building it up in the various body parts, eventually supercharging that area, causing it to glow bright green. Any attack that use electricity in that area will be powered up, at the cost of that body part being much softer. Astalos will retain these supercharged conditions unless knocked out of it by force or loss of stamina.

Weaknesses[]

Astalos are vulnerable to ice and water element attacks. Attempting to super-charge can also be a fatal decision for Astalos if the opponent can easily land hits on them, since it's normally very rigid carapace becomes soft.

Its claws, crest, and back can be broken. Its tail can be partially severed.

Boltreaver Astalos[]

A Boltreaver with an ultra-charged head, demonstrating the immense reach of it's lightning blade.

The Boltreaver is an Astalos that has been exposed to prolonged stress and harsh living conditions, causing notable bodily changes. In addition to accentuated features, it appears to be permanently supercharged, and can achieve a higher state of charge that causes it's green glow to turn bright blue. The beast is notably smarter and more aggressive, and feature much more potent electrical attacks, including a magnetic bomb that pulls in enemies before exploding.
