- "These juvenile Gravios are famous for their rock-hard carapaces. They often burrow underground, mimicking rocks and savaging oblivious miners. They are known to emit poison gases and are especially weak against bombs."
- ―Hunter's Notes
Basarios is a wyvern appearing in multiple Monster Hunter games. It is the juvenile form of Gravios.
Appearance[]
Basarios is a mid-size wyvern with a low but very stocky body. It's body armor is incredibly thick and made of rocky minerals, making it's midsection look like a pile of mossy boulders. It has a short stubby tail, and a flat face with blunt teeth. While it has wings, they are small from lack of use.
Ecology[]
Basarios are juvenile wyverns. During these years, Basarios do not typically enter the inner volcanic regions like their adult forms do, but rather hide in swamps, forests, and outer volcanic regions where their food supply is bountiful.
Basarios have a unique spot in the ecosystem. They primarily feed on ore and crystals, along with a little bit of meat and plant matter. Due to their thick rocky armor, they are almost impossible to injure or eat. As a result, Basarios typically sleep half-buried in the ground, disguised as boulders, and any creature or human that notices them typically is content with not bothering them. They can become hostile if disturbed though.
Abilities[]
Basarios are heavy and slow creatures, and cannot even fly for more than a few dozen yards. When it comes to melee attacks, they like to trample, roll over, or slam into foes. Their thick armor is nearly impenetrable on top, and only just barely able to be damaged or broken at the legs and underbelly. Basarios can spit out balls of molten minerals at mid distance. They can also briefly produce a fire beam from time to time, though they won't fully develop this ability until they reach adulthood. As both an intentional mechanism and a byproduct of it's diet and breath attacks, Basarios can release clouds of gas from chinks in its armor as a defensive measure. It can release superheated gas, poison gas, or sleeping gas.
Weaknessess[]
Basarios are best damaged by water element attacks or explosives. Their slow speed and tendency to hide also makes them vulnerable if you can pierce it's rocky hide.
The back and chest armor can be cracked and broken. Its tail can be severed.
Ruby Basarios[]
These creatures are normal Basarios found in the Everwood. They have a unique diet consisting heavily of pink crystals that grow in the woods, and have grown them on top of it's body as well. They attack mostly the same, except they can fling crystals at opponents by shaking their bodies.
HC Basarios[]
The HC or Hardcore Basarios was introduced in Monster Hunter Frontier Online Season 9.0. These special Basarios can wield their poison and fire much more effectively then their normal counterparts.
