An Epic Dragon is a variety of dragon found in Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition. They are distinguishable by their massive size, their exceptional longevity, and their extraordinary power in comparison to other dragons or even other creatures in general. All Epic Dragons also show mastery over abnormal elements, from force to light to time.

Unlike other dragons, Epic Dragons lean heavily towards neutral and are not bound to extremes in terms of alignment. Each induvial epic dragon might have a vastly different persona then another, with one being reclusive and hostile to others while another is socially active and fights alongside heroes against the forces of evil.[1][2]

Epic Dragons are also adaptable, with an Epic Dragon being able to live anywhere they please without suffering. They tend to eat little in proportion to their body mass, with Time Dragons younger then a Great Wyrm in particular being able to go without eating for months at the cost of becoming lethargic.[2]

Epic Dragons share a traditional hoarding of wealth akin to their lesser relatives. Rather then material wealth however, Epic Dragons prefer to collect more rare and unique pieces of treasure, such as magic, lore, or pieces of art.[2]

The Dungeons & Dragons third-party supplement The Immortal's Handbook: Epic Bestiary Volume One expands on the concept. Also known as Neotic Dragons, Epic Dragons are regarded as divine beings and the height of dragon nobility, with dragons from mythology such as Apep and Quetzalcoatl also being classified as Epic Dragons.[3]
