Plot

Eragon is a sixteen-year-old farmboy and the main character of the Inheritance series. When he's out hunting in the Spine, an explosion happens right in front of him and a dragon egg, looking like a large precious gem stone at the time, appears. When it hatches in the middle of the night a week or so later, he starts the long road to becoming not only a dragon Rider, and hope to bring about the comeback of the protecting people, but hero of all Alagaesia.

After Saphira hatches from her egg King Galbatorix sends his minions to kill Eragon and Saphira. Eragon and Saphira run to Eragon's hometown, Carvahall where he and his dragon go on many adventures together.

When Saphira is finally large enough to ride, her maiden voyage with him aboard saves him from the Raz'ac's wrath, which kills his uncle, but since his cousin Roran is away at a mill, he still has some family, if not very close. The old storyteller Brom discovers Saphira, and offers to take Eragon away to the Varden, who will appreciate a Rider among them.
