Ferrous Dragons are a species of dragonkind in Dungeons & Dragons. A considerable rarity, Ferrous Dragons were once a plentiful and influential race on the global scale before facing near extinction from genocide, the few that still live hoping for the eventual return to their formal glory. Various ferrous dragons have different ways of achieving this goal, whether it be through utmost domination over lesser races and other dragons or by allying with the good dragons against the evil chromatics.[1]
Ferrous Dragons have a strong association with metal, even more so then metallic dragons. Due to a high concentration of iron in their blood, they are able to innately sense various metals and can subsist entirely on it.[1]
Society[]
Embodying the lawful aspect of dragonkind, all Ferrous Dragons are of lawful alignment and follow a strict social hierarchy. Every individual is a member of a family, with two or three families forming a single clan. Each clan is led by a leader as well as a sovereign leader that leads all of the clans of a given species, this sovereign leader themselves reporting to Gruaghlothor, the Supreme Dragon. Graughlothor has also assigned a strict hierarchy between the dragons (from highest to lowest: iron, chromium, cobalt, tungsten, nickel) and because of his wishes, the Tungsten and other evil Ferrous dragons back down from fighting one another despite their nature.[1]
All Ferrous Dragons despise chromatic dragons and tend to get along with gem dragons, particularly amethyst dragons and emerald dragons. Their view on metallic dragons varies based on their alignment, evil ferrous dragons believing that they are “abominations that must be destroyed” while good ferrous dragons see them as “metal at its purest”.[1]
Most Ferrous Dragons do not worship deities, those that do lean towards Astilibor, Chronepis, Io, or Lendys. Tungstens sometimes follow Tamara, and a few follow Bahamut. A couple bold dragons follow Tiamat, which they keep private lest they face the wrath of Graughlothor.[1]
Powers and Abilities[]
All Ferrous Dragons have Metalsense, an ability that allows them to sense the location and amount of nonprecious metals within thirty feet of it. The range of ths ability gets longer based on their age.[1]
