The Force Dragon is a race of epic dragon in Dungeons & Dragons. The dragons are aloof and arrogant, living lives isolated from civilization and see every other creature, sans Prismatic Dragons and some deities, as inferior to them.[1]
Unique to dragonkind, the Force Dragon has a strong association with force effects, with their youngest stage being able to move freely past objects of force such as a wall of force spell and having immunity to effects that deal force damage such as the magic missile spell. Eventually, at their oldest stage, they become an entity entirely made of force, making it effectively invisible to the naked eye.[1]
Appearance[]
Force Dragons are born with tiny, glimmering scales akin to diamonds. These scales grow dimmer as it gets older, however they still refract light, which makes it so they are surrounded by a haze of light. At their oldest stage, light passes past the scales and through their bodies, making them effectively invisible.[1]
Force Dragons scales also grow more sturdy and durable with age, causing them to become nearly impenetrable. Like Prismatic Dragons, Force Dragons are odorless.[1]
Habits[]
Personality[]
Force Dragons have little interest in conversations, believing no other creature could possess knowledge that they already have.[1]
Diet[]
Force Dragons will eat any kind of meat, and it is theorized by sages that Force Dragons also consume force magic itself.[1]
Combat[]
Force Dragons rarely seek out combat, but are noted for their ferocity against intruders in their territory, not backing down until the intruder has been killed or has retreated. They favor using their breath weapon in combat, and use their spells to separate and confine opponents.[1]
Abilities[]
The Force Dragon’s breath weapon is a cone of sheer force. Force Dragons are also protected by a shield of force that can deflect ranged attacks.[1]
At their juvenile stage, Force Dragons passively bend the light around them which makes them appear blurred, making it difficult to perceive. Once they reach their Old stage, they can produce brief illusions that make them appear just a little farther away then they actually are, and as mentioned above, this ability eventually allows full-blown invisibility.[1]
As they age, Force Dragons gain access to the following spell-like abilities
- Forcecage (3/day)- The Dragon creates a magical, invisible cage that surrounds a target and captures them within it. The cage is impenetrable sans a disintegration spell, leaving the only effective way for a creature to escape is teleportation. The cage also extends out into the ethereal plane, making it able to catch the likes of ghosts. he Force Cage comes into two different forms, one being a barred cage, while the other being a windowless cell
- Maze (3/day)- The Dragon banishes a creature to an extradimensional maze. In order to escape, the creature must solve the maze or be stuck there until the maze itself disappears when 10 minutes has passed.
- Resilient Sphere (3/day)- The Dragon creates a sphere of shimmering force that envelops a creature of its choice for up to a minute. The sphere cannot be physically moved and nothing can pass through it or get out of it, although the creature stuck inside can breathe normally
- Telekinetic Sphere (3/day)- This ability functions identically to the resilient sphere spell with the addition that the dragon can telekinetically control the target in the sphere (or the sphere itself) as long as they’re 5,000 pounds or less. The creature within the sphere also becomes nearly weightless, with them retaining only one-sixteenth of their original weight
- Wall of Force (3/day)- The Dragon creates a invisible wall of force in front of it. Nothing can pass through the wall or destroy it short of a disintegration spell, a mage's disjunction spell, a rod of cancellation, or a sphere of annihilation.
Force Dragons also naturally gain access to Sorcerer spells
