A smooth animal with a bulbous head and a bulbous tail, so that each end is difficult to distinguish. One end glows with a purple light. Leechlike.
"Wyverns that inhabit the Tundra. Gigginox live in darkness and thus have degraded vision; they detect prey via body heat, then attack with poison. When excited, their color changes and parts of their body harden. Extremely fertile, laying innumerable eggs."
―Hunter's Notes

Gigginox is a wyvern that appears in 3rd generation Monster Hunter games

Appearance[]

Gigginox is a quadrupedal wyvern. Its main body is long and flat with gray skin on top and red muscular undersides, somewhat resembling an aquatic leech, with its head and tail looking very similar. Its wings are small and fleshy, and its feet have sticky toes rather than claws. The mouth is little more than a muscular hole lined with many rows of sharp teeth, and the tail has a similar toothless hole. There are six glowing pink venom glands located on it's head, tail, and underbelly, which give it the impression of having eyes, even though Gigginox has none. When angry, its gray skin turns black.

Ecology[]

Gigginox are cave dwellers by nature, usually preferring cold ones. They have no trouble seeing in the dark, thanks to heat sensing organs that give it surprisingly good reaction times. They usually hang on the ceilings or walls, ambushing those dumb enough to enter its domain. While they typically avoid apex predators outside their caves, they are not to be taken lightly by even the toughest of fauna when in their element.

Abilities[]

Gigginox are aggressive fighters, often trampling, biting, or belly flopping onto foes at melee range. They can fly, but not very well, preferring to climb along ceilings and walls. They mainly attack by using poison, spitting it at foes, releasing a cloud from below their bodies, or by laying poison bombs. They are also very fertile, laying egg sacs that hatch numerous parasitic larva.

Weaknesses[]

Gigginox are vulnerable to fire attacks.

Their venom glands can be damaged, weakening their poison abilities.

Giggi[]

Giggi are the larval forms of Gigginox. Smaller than a person, they resemble gray slugs with a toothy jawless mouth, and short stubs for limbs. They attach onto prey and suck their blood, rapidly growing in the process. When large enough, they can spit poison, although they have a significant amount of developing to do before they fully mature, and most end up as food for other creatures.

Baleful Gigginox[]

A rare genetic mutation that is sterile. Baleful Gigginox has yellow skin that turns red when angry, a purple underbelly, and green organs that produce electricity. The creature can produce electric discharges, electric orbs, and electric bombs to paralyze and shock foes.
