Glaedr was a golden dragon in the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. Glaedr and his Rider, Oromis, were extremely old and very wise. They were on the Council of Elders before Galbatorix sought to destroy the Dragon Riders, and Oromis was in part responsible for turning down Galbatorix's request for a new dragon egg. Glaedr and Oromis were the only dragon and Rider known to survive Galbatorix's treachery, fleeing to the Crags of Tel'naeír deep in Du Weldenvarden. Glaedr lost a front leg in the process of escaping Galbatorix and his minions, but he was still a formidable adversary. Glaedr and Oromis eventually taught Eragon and Saphira about dragons and Riders, among other things. Towards the end of Brisingr, Glaedr and Oromis were killed by Murtagh and Thorn, Galbatorix's new minions. Before his death, however, Glaedr gave Eragon and Saphira his Eldunarí, or "Heart of Hearts". When he died, Glaedr's very essence was transferred to his Eldunarí, allowing Eragon and Saphira to contact him and ask advice, as well as draw upon his strength, when needed.
