"Giant piscine wyverns which can be spotted near bodies of water. Where wings would be found on other wyverns, it has developed fins specialized for swimming, and, as a result, cannot fly. Despite its fish-like appearance, it is just as comfortable on land."
―Hunter's Notes

Plesioth are wyverns that appear in numerous Monster Hunter games.

Appearance[]

Plesioth is a rather large bipedal wyvern. Unlike most other wyverns, Plesioth has adapted for a semi-aquatic life. Its blue and white body has become scaly like a fish, and its wings have become fin-like. Smaller fins can also be found on its feet, tail, back, and head. Its head is shark like in shape, with additional armor around its beady yellow eyes, and mouth full of sharp teeth.

Ecology[]

Due to their combination of legs and fins, Plesioth can live and hunt in both the land and water. They don't seem to mind whether it's fresh or salty, nor the climate of the region, as they will inhabit just about any large body of water or stalk the coastal regions. While they can be somewhat vulnerable to apex predators on land, in the water they are among the most powerful creatures, only needing to fear the presence of Elder Dragons or Lagiacrus, who uses electricity. They wyverns favor swift and sudden ambush attacks, dragging their stunned victims into the water to finish them off.

Abilities[]

Plesioth are fast and agile in the water, ramming into foes or swatting them with its tail. On land, they slam into foes or slither around. Plesioth has an internal organ that stores pressurized water. It can release this water in the form of a high-pressure beam strong enough to crack rock. Plesioth's fangs also contain a potent sedative. Bites from this wyvern will make small creatures pass out in seconds, leaving them easy targets for the beast.

Weaknesses[]

Plesioth are vulnerable to electrical attacks. If one needs the wyvern to exit the water, they can be baited and fished out with frogs, or by agitating them with a loud noise.

Green Plesioth[]

A subspecies with bright green scales. Green Plesioth features all the same abilities, but is better adapted to walking on land, and will travel farther inland.

Trivia[]

  • Plesioth is infamous among the Monster Hunter community, due to renditions of it in earlier Monster Hunter games having enormous hitboxes on its attacks, particularly its hipcheck attack.
