Bio-Scan of the Sea Dragon
The Sea Dragon Leviathan is a massive species of fauna appearing in the videogame Subnautica.
Appearance[]
The Sea Dragon is a gigantic creature that lives underwater on Planet 4546B. It's body is mainly a dull green, with faint purple stripes and patches. It's upper body is very much reptilian, with developed arms with webbed claws, purple fins on it's head and back, and a wide head equipped with four eyes, several glowing protrusions, and a maw full of sharp teeth. The creature's lower half is a mass of five squid-like tentacles. Luminous orange pores run from the dragon's underbelly all the way down it's tentacles.
Ecology[]
Sea Dragons are known to inhabit the Inactive and Active Lava Zones, volcanic caverns located deep beneath the seabed, where they are by far the largest life-form and apex predator, although in recent years, food shortages due to bacterial outbreaks have forced them to temporarily head upwards through the lost river and grand reef to hunt for larger prey. They also feed on volcanic minerals in order to help them survive the harsh conditions of their home. Sea Dragons are surprisingly not incredibly aggressive or territorial in most cases, mainly due to no living creatures being able to really challenge them in their natural habitat.
History[]
While Sea Dragons feature no important role in the stories of survivors who land on planet 4546B other than a major obstacles, a Sea Dragon is responsible for the current state of the planet. 1000 years ago, an alien race were gathering fauna subjects, looking for a potential cure for a contained and very destructive bacteria known as Khraa. Among the subjects was a Sea Dragon egg. The parent, desperate to protect the egg, later followed the aliens to the Disease Research facility, where it attacked and severely damaged the structure, releasing Khraa into the water and triggering both a planet-wide quarantine for outsiders, as well as many mass extinctions due to infection. The parent dragon died of head trauma after attacking the facility.
Abilities[]
Claws and Teeth[]
The Sea Dragon has immensely powerful arms and jaws, allowing it to deal devastating damage to anything it hits. The body of a Sea Dragon has also been reinforced with hard scales that are almost impenetrable.
Fire Breath[]
While the beast cannot breathe actual fire, it can expel explosive molten rocks with violent force.
Infection[]
Like most fauna, the Sea Dragon can fall victim to infection by the Khraa bacterium. Khraa in the late stages has no cure. Heavily infected individuals will have glowing green cysts on their body.
