Zorah Magdaros is an elder dragon appearing in Monster Hunter World.
Appearance[]
Zorah Magdaros is a gargantuan dragon. It's frontal body mostly resembles a typical dragon, though instead of a wings, a huge mass of hardened biological rock and magma rests upon its back. Most of it's body looks as though it is made from hardened lava, with numerous vents in it's back spewing bio-lava.
According to the Research Commission, the particular Zorah Magdaros that was seen in the New World was much larger than other members of its species.
History[]
The particular Zorah Magdaros featured in Monster Hunter World was first seen during a voyage of ships carrying hunter to a research commission in the New World, studying a mysterious event known as the Elder Dragon Crossing. However, this voyage was interrupted by Zorah rising out of the sea, bound for the New World as well. After both parties made landfall, the commission decided to try and track down and capture Zorah to learn why it crossed the sea. During an attempt to restrain it in a massive ravine, the operation was ruined by the arrival of a dragon call Nergigante.
The commission continued to track Zorah, following it's trail down to a corpse and bone-laiden region known as the Rotten Vale, where the trail was lost. It was learned that Zorah came here to die in the Vale, as many elder dragons did, and its body, filled with bioenergy, would would break down and provide fresh nutrients and energy to the ecosystems above. However, Zorah had not stopped at the Vale for some reason, and had broken into a region called the Everstream, which had a unique connection to the rest of the surrounding continent. If it died there and released it's pent-up energy, the results would be cataclysmic. As such, the commission then stationed themselves in the Everstream and successfully managed to divert Zorah's path and force it to head into the open sea. It's fate after that is unknown.
Abilities[]
Zorah Magdaros is one of only two elder dragons known to be able to create an biological substance similar to magma. It uses this to harden and grow the shell upon it's back that it uses for defense, but it can also use vents in its shell to fire balls of magma at targets that have irritated it. It can also blast a large amount of magma from its mouth.
Weaknesses[]
While Zorah's shell mostly resists minor attacks, there are numerous organs designed for heat exhaust that protrude from Zorah's back, which can be attacked for heavy damage. These "magmacores" also take significant water damage.
Zorah's five magmacores, several other weakpoints on his shell, his facial armor, and chest armor can be damage.
